Want to better support your LGBTQIA+ loved ones?

LGBTQIA+ isn’t just a label - it’s a community of people who, like anyone else, are navigating work, family, relationships, and identity. Showing respect and consideration for the community can demonstrate that you see them for the people they are. In a world that can feel unsafe, you can be that lifeline and create a psychologically safe space for others.

Whether it’s a family member, friend, or colleague, these small, consistent gestures can make a big difference:

🧏‍♀️ Listen, and don’t judge - sometimes, the best thing you can do is hold space without changing the subject. Let them share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

🪞 Use the language they use - whether it’s the name they go by, their pronouns, or how they describe their identity, mirror their terms respectfully.

📚 Keep learning - don’t rely on LGBTQIA+ friends to explain everything. Research, ask thoughtful questions (if they’re open to it), and stay informed.

🫂 Support them in caring for their mental health - stigma and discrimination can weigh heavy especially in the community. Check in with them, and encourage professional help if needed.
