What does it mean to be a facilitator for mental well-being?

Facilitators help to provide peer support to support mental well-being. In order to do so, we equip you with the necessary skills, including: mental health literacy, self-compassion, deep listening, and group facilitation.

  • The safety of our facilitators and participants is our priority. Led by this guiding principle, we ensure that facilitators have the skillset and capacity to hold space for others, and are adequately supported throughout their volunteering experience.

  • All our facilitators undergo a facilitator training programme and have to pass a final assessment to ascertain their readiness to become a facilitator.

  • Facilitators will also be mentored to start and run a peer support programme to support their local community at Kolam Ayer.

1. Training

Tues, 21 & 28 Nov | 8 - 10 PM SGT (Virtual)
Sat, 2 Dec | 2-5:30PM SGT (In-person)

Training is a combination of self-paced learning and live sessions. You'll need to attend 2 of 3 live training sessions and complete all the self-paced exercises to complete the full training programme.

What to expect?

2. Programme Formation & Facilitation

Ongoing basis

Facilitators who pass the training programme will be mentored to start and run a peer support programme for the Kolam Ayer community. Facilitators will also be invited to support the Calm Circles programme.

  • The training entails modules such as self-care and self-compassion, mental health literacy, deep listening and group facilitation.

You can expect to learn through training videos, activities and reflection exercises at your own pace. Additionally, you will learn to apply what you’ve learnt through experiential practice and role play during the in-person training sessions.

  • Yes, you will receive a certificate if you have completed all 4 training modules and attended 80% of the in-person training sessions.

  • We will be looking out for individuals who embody our Calm Circles agreements, have self-awareness, a growth mindset and are confident communicators.

Facilitators would benefit from the experience by learning transferable skills and gaining experience that they may bring into their daily interactions and communities that they are a part of.

Our facilitators have reported that they’ve experienced deeper conversations and improved relationships!

  • Your training outcome will be notified by mid-December 2023 upon passing a post-training assessment.

  • It depends on the peer support programme that your community of volunteers choose to create for the Kolam Ayer community.

Facilitators will have the option to volunteer for Calm Collective’s peer support programme, Calm Circles. Virtual sessions are held 2x a month, and occasionally in-person.

  • Calm Circles welcomes anyone from the age of 18 and above. Majority of our participants are in their 20s - 30s, and based in Singapore. In virtual sessions, we welcome people from around the world.

  • Volunteer facilitators will not receive any form of allowance as participation is on a voluntary basis.
